Foundation Team Lead

Ultranet Project

The DEECD Ultranet project was a high-media profile web-based learning environment developed for Victorian school students, teachers and parents, integrated with data feeds from DEECD. As Team Lead of the Foundation Team, I managed six team members, plus additional consulting specialists as needed, to successfully deliver a complex Oracle-based technical infrastructure for Phase 1 of the DEECD Ultranet project. The complexity of the solution architecture and extremely aggressive timelines in this project required discipline, multi-tasking and lateral thinking to successfully manage multiple stakeholders, third party vendors and competing deliverables.Responsibilities:• Worked closely with the Release and Environment Manager to proactively engage with other Project teams to improve the quality of changes/releases.• First point of contact and subject matter expert for queries regarding direction or delegation to other teams.• Took ownership of and worked to strengthen the relationships between Project Teams and the Systems & Network Administration Teams, significantly improving the quality of systems provided to the Foundation Team.• Promoted a positive team environment and collaborative approach where hard work was recognised and acknowledged.Achievements:• Identified significant under-licensing issue with major component before production release, and opened negotiations with the vendor resulting in favourable terms for CSG ensuring compliance with the tight project schedule.• Created an inclusive, positive culture, which resulted in overwhelmingly positive feedback on the performance of the Foundation Team as a unit.

Dec 2009 - Jul 2010

Database Administrator

Ibm Gsa - Telstra Implementation

I was part of the team providing Oracle Database support to Telstra. My interest in improving the quality and delivery of new environments, combined with initiative shown in taking ownership of standardising and improving processes resulted in my being requested to join a newly created team within IBM tasked with re-engineering and automating the delivery of Oracle database environments. This role aligned well with my passion for delivering ongoing process improvement.Responsibilities:• Undertook significant re-architecture of business and technical processes in collaboration with other IBM teams.• Mapped and documented the new processes and delivered written and verbal presentations promoting the improved product to both internal and external stakeholders.Achievements:• Reduced the time to deliver a standard database environment from four days down to six - eight hours.• Successfully extended the product to other Oracle versions, the final product being considered by IBM Asia Pacific for extension to IBM’s broader global client base.

Feb 2009 - Nov 2009

Student

Masters Of Nursing Science

I commenced full-time study intending to qualify as a Division 1 Nurse, achieving first and second-class honours across all subjects undertaken. While I sincerely enjoyed the challenge and reward of the nursing studies and hospital placements, I found that nursing lacked the autonomy and technical challenge that defined my IT career. The benefit of my nursing studies was that it reinforced my strong client focus and clarified my career goals, subsequently driving me to pursue more challenging IT leadership and technical roles that incorporated and extended my leadership capacity, interpersonal skills and client emphasis.
