David Prete is an actor, director, fiction writer, teacher and public speaking coach. As a private coach, he has trained best-selling authors in the art of public reading and speaking, preparing them for book tours, lectures, media appearances and TED talks. He also works as an executive corporate speaking coach with Speak by Design. He has taught writing, acting, directing and speaking at numerous universities, training centers, prisons, and in private classes nationwide; he also works with individuals to develop their personal stories into original solo performances. Prete holds an MFA in Directing from Northwestern University, and graduated from the New Actors Workshop where he studied with Mike Nichols (Tony and Academy Award winning director of The Graduate, Angels in America). He has worked as an actor and director Off Broadway in New York, at Steppenwolf and the Goodman Theater in Chicago, among others, as well as in Los Angeles and regionally. He has worked as a film consultant for HBO and appeared in independent films screened at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, the International Film Festival of NYC, and others. He is the author of two critically-acclaimed books of fiction published by W. W. Norton: Say That to My Face, and August and Then Some, a Chicago Tribune Editor’s Pick.
