M.E.A. Certification PRIMARY FUNCTION: Operate the electrical distribution system, 4KV, 13.8KV, 27.6KV and ensure a safe, reliable and cost-effective delivery of electrical power on a 24-hour basis. Monitor system conditions; develop, direct and dispatch system switching, work protection and trouble response for planned and emergency events. RESPONSIBILITIES: Create, update, maintain and verify logs, reports and databases to record system attributes during planned and emergency conditions Lead and distribute, follows up and check work, answer inquiries and give guidance as required Consult and co-ordinate with contractors, internal and external customers Operate the system to ensure the safe, reliable and cost effective distribution of electrical energy Monitor system loading and initiate appropriate action to achieve desired system performance Ensure proper isolation and work protection is provided for planned and emergency work Direct and dispatch field operations to complete planned and emergency work Schedule, plan and direct all switching operations to complete planned and emergency work Recommend changes and upgrades to the system to improve system performance and safety Maintains system maps, displays and schematics Support and assist field crews in response to emergencies such as outages, accidents and spills Respond to after hour stakeout requests and initiate field response, if necessary Follow regulatory procedures Follow employer's procedures Engage in job planning with Crew Leader and/or Supervisor Identify defects, contraventions and dangers Use initiative to reduce risk Apply discretion to solve OH&S problems Report unresolved problems Work cooperatively with co-workers, crew leaders, supervisors and others

CertificationRESPONSIBILITIES:Construct, maintain, operate and repair electrical overhead and underground distribution system and substations, perform duties which include stringing wire, setting poles and anchors, hanging transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms and insulators, installing underground duct systems, vaults, cables, padmounted transformers, switches, switchgear and associated system components. Locate trouble in primary and secondary systems, replace fuses in transformers, and clearing faulted circuits and systems. Work with energized high voltage systems 4KV, 13.8KV and 27.6KV as well as residential and commercial secondary voltages. Apply skill and care to protect the lives of workers and the public. Rotate through trouble department and respond to after hour emergency calls.

Residential and commercial wiring, panel changes and service upgrades, trouble shoot faults on secondary wires, install wiring for new construction and for renovations, ensure compliance with local electrical codes.

Perform routine maintenance on customer owned high voltage equipment (switchgear, substations, secondary and primary mains, etc), install new cables, poles and duct structures, maintain streetlights for local utilities and cities. Respond to after hour emergencies, spill containment and restoration of customer owned equipment.
