Responsible for project engineering and maintenance functions in a large manufacturing facility. Managed team of engineering technicians responsible for production equipment, facilities, and quality/calibration, including hiring and performance review responsibilities. Propose capital projects and calculate costs and return on investment to present to upper management. Coordinated with maintenance supervisor to lead electrical maintenance staff on in-house upgrades and projects Initiated and managed Arc-Flash / NFPA-70E compliance study and instituted electrical safe practices procedures. Managed yearly lock-out program audits and training per OSHA 1910.147. Identified, budgetted, and managed projects to update aging electrical infrastructure, including modifications to incoming switchgear. Identified, budgetted, and engineered in-house and outsourced controls upgrades to production machinery, providing an end-product Wilsonart technicians can maintain with no additional training. Managed and supervised on-going process of updating machine safety systems on older production equipment. Supported maintenance technicians on production equipment breakdowns.

Worked as part of a team to produce custom automationequipment for various manufacturing industries. Worked with customers toconceptualize and quote equipment to meet specifications for existing andnew processes. Developed bills of material, and estimated labor for design,programming, and assembly of mechanical and electrical systems. Designedelectrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control schematics. Wrote software forvarious PLC’s and HMI’s including Allen-Bradley and Siemens.Implemented Rockwell Software-based data collection and part-trackingsystems on new and existing machinery in customer’s facilities. Supported the marketing and sales of Rockwell Automation motion control and related automation products in Western NorthCarolina. Provided pre-sales engineering support and after-sale technical assistance on mechanical, electrical, and software products. This support included providing conceptual solutions to automation applications, sizing andselecting motion components, and developing code to solve difficult customer problems.Automation Group Supervisor – Organized and coordinated the activities ofthe Automation Group at REXEL for Western North Carolina. Taught introductory PLC course for two semesters.

Designed and installed electrical controls systems for various industries, including textile, automotive, and injection molding. Designed control panels, sourced materials, and oversaw panel fabrication.

Developed software control algorithms and designedpanels for end-user customers, primarily in the food and beverage industries.Directed field electricians during installation and startup.

Developed new sales territory in the state of Georgia for aCharlotte-based automation sales company. Worked with engineers at userand OEM accounts to implement mechanical and electrical motion controlsystems. Initiated contact with and led new $1.4 million packaging OEMaccount to maturity.

Cooperative Education Program – Conducted various engineering tasks andduties for a large systems integrator: reviewed drawings, wired controlpanels, and programmed PLC and operator interface systems for pulp andpaper, automotive, tire and rubber, and other industries. Worked for extendedperiods on startups, overseeing electricians and other trades.
