After 36 years in local government I decided to retire from public service to establish StarCrisp Farms LLC to take advantage of I 502 that made marijuana legal in Washington State.Between 2014 and 2017 StarCrisp Farms LLC grew cannabis and marketed cannabis to licensed retail establishments throughout the Puget Sound area. StarCrisp Farms LLC product could be found in Port Angeles on the shelves of the Hidden Bush, Sparkit, Muffy’s Smokin Greens, and Mister Budds and in the Sequim area at Nature’s Gifts and Seachange.In order to support statewide efforts to establish a strong cannabis industry, I personally became a member of the Cannabis Alliance and an Executive Board Member of the Cannabis Farmer’s Council (CFC). Because of issues with local government regulation as an industry member, I was appointed to the State Building Code Council’s Marijuana Technical Advisory Group, to help rewrite marijuana laws related to building and fire codes.When I established my hobby farm the price for cannabis was $12 a gram, by the end of 2016 it was around $1.30 a gram and it was no longer profitable to farm for a small tier 1 business. However, the value of my business had skyrocketed given the demand for marijuana production and processing licenses, and the decision of the LCB to discontinue the granting of marijuana production and processing licenses. As a result, I made the decision to sell my marijuana licenses and in 2017 sold my licenses and retired from the cannabis industry.Currently I maintain a non-commercial presence in the cannabis industry with memberships in the Cannabis Alliance and as a Special Advisor to the Cannabis Farmers Council (CFC).
