The Sport Foundation aims to use the power of sport to develop people and communities. Both combined to support the University's Strategy objectives of widening participation, improving student experience, and increasing student employability.

Working with large chain supermarkets and local retailers in North East England to increase quality of marketing, and sales, of Lucozade products.The role involved quickly building professional relationships with regional and store managers of major supermarket chains and individual business owners.I was able to successfully meet targets and was the best performing MBDM in England in the month I worked my notice before moving to Northumberland FA.

Working in a care home for teenagers in care, I supported the young people living in the home in their day-to-day lives, educational requirements, and acting as a positive role model. The young people came from a variety of backgrounds and the role required high levels of inter-personal skills to communicate effectively and, at times, calm conflict situations.

Lusaka, Zambia

As Team Leader for the 2012 IDEALS Zambia Project involved me working with Zambian NGO's, Sport in Action and EduSport, to support and coordinate the work of 36 student sport coaches from the Wallace Group of Universities (St Andrews, Stirling, Northumbria, Durham, Cardiff Met, Loughborough, and Bath).The project uses sport as tool for social development with young people in Zambia. Each year the project also runs three multi-sport tournaments (The Wallace Tournament) for young people aged 12-18 in Lusaka. In 2012 each of the Student Coach teams were able to deliver tournaments for over 400 (1,200 in total) young people in football, netball, volleyball, basketball, and track athletics.As well as my role supporting the student coaches and the tournament organisation, I worked with the Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka, to support their high performance coaches and their athletes. I also delivered workshops to introduce coaches to the importance and benefits of including Strength & Conditioning training within athlete's overall training programme.

Working across the four major supermarket chains to make sure Molson Coors' marketing strategy was being effectively delivered, and through soft-sell tactics help influence an increase in orders on Molson Coor products. In 2011 I won a Molson Coors Employee Award for increasing the distribution of Corona higher than any other region in the UK.

As part of the 2010 IDEALS Zambia Project, I coached sport (football, netball, cricket, volleyball, basketball) and taught English to young people living in a school and home for homeless children in Lusaka called Fountain of Hope. The project uses sport to engage with young people on issues such as HIV/AIDS, gender equality, and drug abuse.

I was selected to complete my second year University work placement module at the Dr Schwann Centre of the University of Regina, Canada. At the university I supported the work of the centre's community Cardiac Rehabilitation programme where I worked with the centre's clients to support their exercise programmes and health monitoring. I also worked at the University's Sport Injury Clinic. Here I worked with the University's high performance athletes and their training and injury recovery programmes, as well as community users of the clinic. This involved working with the University's performance Ice Hockey, Basketball, Canadian Football, and Soccer athletes.
