Software Development & Management of Systems to integrate Customers data; Web site developement; e-commerce; Management reporting system;I was responsible for the IT operation at the company’s Print Management operation. The role involved management of the in-house team responsible for the development and maintenance of customer-facing services providing solutions integrated with the Clients’ own systems. These included processing of variable print jobs and providing documents and status updates back into the clients’ systems worldwide.I was the primary point of contact for several of our blue chip clients.The systems also provide a public-facing purchase interface with integrated payments via PayPal (generating income in excess of £5m).Internally I developed solutions for use with some of our sister companies overseas (Germany, Spain and Russia) as well as internal tools to improve the services we provide, the reporting of management metrics and monitoring performance. These are used by the UK branch network as well as (with a tailored look-and-feel) directly to Customers.This also included the relocation of the offices to central Birmingham including infrastructure (Comms, Power, Building works) and Plant relocation.

I designed, wrote, coded, tested and executed jobs for processing Client data with as little as a one-hour turnaround. This was in a Direct Mail environmentI also created web-sites for customers to query real-time product catalogues, stock figures and orders from databases.Additionally, I have performed BPR on the internal systems, supported and maintained internal systems and designed the IT replacement infrastructure.

I managed the implementation of new global Audit requirements for the UK IT operation including Head Office at Reading.The project was developing policies, procedures and processes for the IT department.This included:» Helpdesk,» Development, » Security,» Project Management, » Telephony, » Network, » Project Management, » Asset Tracking, » and 3rd-party Management and (later) » Purchasing, » Disaster Recovery, » Data Warehouse and » Operations.I then produced a Risk Analysis, List of Controls, Control Testing Schedule and Corrective Action Plan for the issues discovered.I reported to the Head of IT, UK and matrix-managed the efforts of 2 General Managers and the IT Managers. I updated the Head of IT, Europe.I interfaced between the US audit team and resolved the issues arising.The business received a satisfactory rating from the audit.I defined, designed, wrote and implemented a Change Control system covering all UK sites / units.

I managed the project to install a 100 seat call centre for a Multi-National Credit Card Bank and upgrade of all of the internal systems.My activities included designing servers, networks, identifying suppliers, managing contractors and obtaining / refining quotes, provision of UPS and generator and all ancillary items to testing, training and roll out.The project was delivered under budget (approx. £2.3m) and before the scheduled date.I obtained further contracts for the company, including the QA & Audit of the bank’s website.A further project was to expand to an additional building this included the selection of premises, suppliers, project plans and timetables. I also performed a complete systems review for the client.As well as clients, the company provided the IT operation for the group. This included the design of internal systems, communications links, Email, Website and support for 50 users.

My roles progressed via:» Programmer, » Analyst Programmer, » Senior Programmer, » Team Leader (Programming) and » Research & Development and Training ManagerThe systems included both package and bespoke work for a large number of companies throughout the UK.As Team Leader (Programming) I managed a team of 12 programmers on large, bespoke projects which included the largest bespoke development undertaken by the company which was completed on time and in budget.I was also involved with manufacturers (validating hardware proposals, porting to new releases of the operating system and testing of beta releases).In 1988, as R & D and Training Manager. I evaluated, implemented and trained on the replacement in-house OA system.This Unix system required significant command line knowledge and so I wrote a user interface for System Administration.This package exceeded all objectives and in 1991 was incorporated into IBM's Application Pack 6000 for the RS/6000 range and sold by IBM amongst others.Over the next 3 years I evaluated, recommended, ordered, installed, trained and supported packages offering X400 mail, fax, scanning and EDMS.I also developed the company’s infrastructure, including the entire telephony and voicemail systems.In 1997 I became Business Unit Manager.
