I was responsible for the service budget, which equated to £350,000, this money was to ensure that there were enough resources to enable activities to run, staff training and the maintenance of the centre was at a good level. Many achievements were attained around the development of each of the individuals that we supported. One of the biggest achievements was to be awarded our Autism Accreditation (awarded by The National Autistic Society) in 2010 then again in 2013, it was a fantastic feeling to know that, as a service, we maintained our level of support to a high standard. Another great achievement of mine was being asked to set up and manage an Asperger Support Group for adults, would found that many adults on the spectrum did not have a place to go to share their experiences and to ask for assistance. This ended up being one of the best experiences of my life. I managed this group for 3 years and learnt so much from each member, 3 of the members even grew on confidence so much that they became volunteers for Autism Sussex and did talks to new staff members to give them an understanding of what it is like to be on the Autistic Spectrum. As my understanding of Autism and Challenging Behaviour grew so did my ability to manage various situations. In my time at the NAS, I key-worked 10 individuals, due to my work ethic and consistent approach, each one of those individuals positively developed and modified their negative behaviours, this was through understanding each of them and appreciating the their uniqueness.
