As CHIEF ECONOMIST I add value to the business across four levels:STRATEGIC: addressing long-term challenges fundamental to the future direction of the business.‒ Currently leading the cross-functional project determining the impact of US tariffs on autos and setting out our response strategy. ‒ Conducted and lead the strategic impact and mitigation assessment of Brexit. ‒ Lead the cross-functional project team on rapid assessment of impact of election of Donald Trump on potential international manufacturing footprint.PLANNING: Provide economic analysis, forecasts, and interpretation and translation of risks and opportunities for the sales, marketing, supply chain, and manufacturing sides of the business.‒ Provide long term strategic view of country and regional economic, political and social prospects for global manufacturing footprint work.‒ Led a team to develop a short term forecast model for US vehicle sales using only publically available data to challenge inadequate market offering.TACTICAL: event-driven, rapid-response analysis to support urgent decision making. Events have included Trump’s election, the Russian rouble collapse; China’s stock market collapse; announcements of de-regulation of China State-Owned Industries; UK, India and US government budgets. THOUGHT LEADERSHIP & REPORTING: communication of economic ideas and insight to lay audiences.
