Graduate Research Fellow-Doctoral Degree CandidateColumbia University Aug 2010 - Aug 2012New York, Ny, UsMy dissertation research focused on elucidating the role and regulation of the redundant phenazine biosynthetic operons of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA14. Using genetic and molecular biology techniques we established the role of a previously underappreciated phenazine biosynthetic operon in bacterial community formation and host colonization. We also revealed a novel regulation of this operon by quinolones. I authored three manuscripts for peer reviewed publications -
Director Of Heiskell Technology CenterCommunity League Of The Heights Aug 2009 - Nov 2010UsMy work experience with the Community League of the Heights (CLOTH) strengthened my grant writing and marketing skills, as well as provided me with managerial experience. At CLOTH, I managed the operating budget and created and maintained several educational and vocational programs. I was also involved in the planning and writing of grants for new science education programs for the community. I developed and executed marketing plans for these educational programs. -
Graduate Research FellowColumbia University Jan 2004 - Aug 2009New York, Ny, UsInvestigated the function of microtubules (MTs) in 3-dimensional cell motility. By eliminating MTs, or altering their dynamics, we can asses their function in a more physiological environment. This was a novel way of focusing on a long-standing question that had previously only been investigated in 2-dimensions. 3-dimensional assays more closely resemble the physiological environment and allow us to investigate how cells may behave within an organism. During the course of this project I became proficient in microscopy and fabrication of nanosubstrates. -
Post-Baccalaureate Research FellowNational Institutes Of Health Jun 2003 - Jan 2004Bethesda, Md, UsResearched adrenergic receptor trafficking and turnover. Using receptor chimeras and drugs that inhibited trafficking pathways we were able to elucidate part of the -adrenergic receptor trafficking pathway. We found that a signal sequence in the C-terminal of the -receptors allowed for differential sensitivity to agonist-induced ubiquitination and internalization. In this project, I was exposed to several receptor binding and internalization techniques.
