2nd Year Boatbuilding and Restoration Student: IYRS is a traditional boatbuilding and restoration program training students over the course of two years in the fundamentals of traditional plank on frame boat construction. Subjects covered are:1st Year: Defining hull shape, lofting & lines drawings, wooden hull construction, materials and technology, project documentation, shop safety and handling of common woodworking tools and shop machinery. Project: Restoration of a Beetle Cat, cat boat, "Calliope"2nd Year: Marine surveying, Contracts: labor estimating, agreements, table of scantlings, bill of materials. Advance lofting/lines/construction plans, project management. Project: Restoration of a 1926 R-Class racing sailboat designed by Burges, Swasey, & Paine & built by George Lawley.Participated in midyear Internship to Italy to study traditional Italian small craft and learn cold-molded wooden boat construction methods used at Alto Aldriatico Shipyard in Monfalcone. Primary duties consist of performing underwater bridge inspections under the supervision of an FDOT certified bridge inspector. Report, survey, and provide detail photo documentation of status of bridges and elements critical to bridge structures throughout Miami Dade County.Inspections are done in various conditions to include dark/murky or clear waters, high traffic areas, and high places (bridges and highway signs). Priority in safe boat handling and maintenance, diving equipment, and company vehicles as well as crew and personnel.Achievements: Successful completion of major inspections that include the 7mile bridge and all other bridges in the upper and lower Florida Keys, and all major bridge or highway structures maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation. Extended Contracts were awarded.

Conduct detail topographic surveys to include boundary surveys, construction layouts, grade elevations and benchmarks, as-built surveys, and underwater soundings.Duties required the collection of detail information with a Total Station surveying instrument for use in survey plans, blueprints, and field drawings to be used by engineers to complete contracts.

Responsible for processing customer orders and billing, inventory control and cement allocation, assign drivers to deliveries, post and balance shipping numbers.Achievements: Increased Bag Cement sales and shipments monthly by at least 15%, and Record holder for most bag cement shipped in a day: 2313 tons.

Served as 60mm Mortar gun team leader. Conducted personnel inspections, drill, and various daily maintenances. Responsible for $7000-$10000 in military weapons systems and equipment. Training NCO for 3 of the Battalions Companies, and responsible for the organization and training of over 200 Marines from Rifle qualification to Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical field training and prevention.
