From late 2004 until January of this year, I was the Director of Portfolio Strategies at Rydex Investments, a mutual fund firm specializing in alternative investment strategies in the Washington DC area. In my tenure at Rydex I was responsible for the firm's economic, market and strategic analysis and was the overall spokesperson for the firm. I also initiated the firm's foray into asset allocation and created the organization's first set of asset allocation portfolios (mutual funds and institutional accounts) using a broad set of both traditional and alternative asset classes. These portfolios incorporated investment strategies ranging from long-only equity, to hedge fund benchmark replication, long-short equity, market neutral, commodity, managed futures and portable alpha. These portfolios performed quite well on both a benchmark and peer group relative basis during the recent downturn. My current goal is to extend my work in all these areas in the Boston area.
