I was responsible for the support functions of a 622,000 sq ft distribution facility that employed up to 300 associates. This facility distributed merchandise to Sears locations throughout Western Canada, from Vancouver Island to Western Ontario. I was responsible for managing the P&L and controlling all expenses.

Calgary, Alberta

I was appointed as store manager when the store was still under construction. It was a conversion from an Eatons store to a Sears store. I oversaw the hiring of 10 salaried managers and 250 associates. I was responsible for the merchandising and the opening of the store. I managed it for 8 months and was responsible for the associates, the sales and all expenses on the P&L. After the opening I applied for the Operations Manager at the Calgary National Logistics Centre, the job title was later changed to Manager Logistics Support.

The Calgary Chinook store was one of the largest full line stores in Canada at the time I managed it. I lead the team through good sales increases during my 8 years as store manager in this store. During this time the company invested in two major renovations as a result of the strong sales. These renovations were challenging as the store remained open during both of them. This was an invaluable experience in keeping the team focused on sales and profit while major construction was taking place.

I was the store manager of this store for two years. I was responsible for the associates, the sales and managing the P&L. This store had an attached auto centre.

I was responsible for all operating expenses and human resources. The Edmonton Kingsway store was one of the largest in the company. I gained invaluable experience in the short 10 months I was at this store, I was promoted to store manager of the Medicine Hat store.

I held various positions during this time frame. including Store Superintendent, Service Centre Manager, Sales Manager, Personnel Manager, Operating Superintendent, Customer Service Manager, Unit Buying Control Manager, Training Manager and Division Manager

While I was attending the University of Victoria, I started working at the Sears Hillside store. I started in the auto centre as an installer and later joined the management trainee program. Sears was expanding in B.C. at the time with the opening of the Chilliwack store and the Prince George store. I applied for a division management position in the Prince George store
