I am fascinated by technology and love coming up with creative solutions. For as long as I can remember, I have always been ‘that kid’. You know, the one who wants to take things apart and learn how the pieces all work together. When, I got my first computer, I spent hours upon hours reading through code to try to figure out what I could change to turn the output into something different. It was fascinating. As I got older, it became clear that I my passions for problem solving and technology were going to lead me to Software Development. My career in IT began with an internship during college. I was brought in to help with computer and network systems support. Over time, my thirst for knowledge had me learning Windows servers, databases, phone systems and programming. That internship eventually evolved into a full-time position, running the company web server and intranet, learning all I could along the way about browsers, HTML, JavaScript, ASP, etc. I also picked up some Photoshop along the way. Eventually, I moved on to my longest employer, Helmerich & Payne, Inc., who wanted someone with a vast array of IT skills who could help with all the computer systems that were used on oil drilling sites – servers, networking equipment, web services. Eventually, an entire team took on that role, freeing me up to be a software developer -- and eventually a team lead, managing a group of up to eight developers during my five years in that role. After a restructure, I transitioned to a senior developer role, a position that I have had through various title changes for most of my tenure here. Despite not having a formal leadership title, I never stopped rising to that level during the remainder of my tenure, leading projects and other initiatives and helping guide others to be better.Starting in October 2018, I was blessed with an opportunity to learn some hands-on 3D Modeling using Blender and VR Software Development using Unity. Through using these tools, I led initiatives producing VR training scenarios, high-quality training materials as well as computer graphic incident re-enactments that have been instrumental in reinforcing the safety culture of the organization.I am always a person who junior-level developers and teammates can lean on and at times, learn from.Through a high level of attention to detail and a passion for creative solutions, I never stop pushing myself to hit the next level, whether while working on a 3D model or a web application. There is always a way to make it better. So, why not try?
