I created this department to consolidate the work done by over 70 neighorhood associations to streamline the operations while maximizing their effectiveness. My team works in conjunction with the local grassroots organizations to elevate community programs while providing a strong infrastructure to achieve a variety of social justice objectives. A few achievements in this role include: ● Appointed to continue to serve in a role reporting to the City Coordinator to lead a team of 17 cross-functional professionals responsible for connecting 70 neighborhood organizations. ● Created and manage a $10 million annual budget that encompasses 5 comprehensive programs including capital improvement, program development, and policy changes. ● Manage over 700 active contracts worth over $80 million for projects such as housing, youth programs, economic development and park improvements. ● Built metrics dashboard tracking over 100 quantitative and qualitative data points to regularly report progress of engagement activities across diverse ethnic and cultural affinity groups.

I was recruited by the City Coordinator to build out the Neighborhood and Community Relations Department. I have continued to be appointed to lead a team of over 17 people with responsibility for a $10 million annual budget. To do this, I collaborated across departments, my team, and community leaders to develop a strategic framework that drives equity in government with demonstrated ability to engage people from all ethnic and cultural affinity groups. A few of my achievements in this role include: ● Developed the department from scratch that drives cultural engagement in a municipality of 413,000 people reflecting 9 large cultural affinity and racial groups. ● Coordinate annual conference that has grown to over 694 attendees with racial and ethnic parity of the city including policy workshops, educational sessions, and training. ● Created and facilitated adoption of a new Language Access Plan which streamlined and supported access to city services and decision making in multiple languages resulting in a +500% increase in use. ● Built pathways for new leaders to join city boards and commissions with 15% increase of people of color serving on various city boards within 2 years. ● Drove the adoption and implementation of the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) framework to begin measuring and reporting on civic engagement. ● Developed and facilitated adoption of the ADA Transition Plan to exceed the federal requirements for purposes of ensuring accessibility to city programming based on Minneapolis initiative.

I was recruited back to PRG, a nonprofit, affordable housing development organization, as its Executive Director where I focused on partnering with communities and cultural groups to remediate housing issues impacting low-to-moderate-income residents. I led and motivated a nine-member team and raised funds for a $600,000 annual operating budget.Under my leadership, we focused on three core functions as a result of a strategic planning process and eliminated financial loss by selling the organization’s rental portfolio to a larger, higher capacity organization. We were able to create 100+ affordable units for low-income people and those with special needs and targeted housing toward specific cultures. PRG expanded into more municipalities and into communities of color by developing strategic government and community relationships.A few achievements in this role included: ● Advised the 11-person board of directors while maintaining the governance details for an organization that consistently fundraised above budget while driving social justice. ● Crafted the comprehensive personnel policy including employee handbooks, PTO, work hours, dress code, benefits, and standardizing payroll/holidays. ● Negotiated and closed the sale of rental property management to a partner organization to reduce the overhead of the organization while resolving the outstanding debt. ● Developed strategic government and community relationships to expand services into more municipalities including foreclosure counseling, affordable housing, and social services.

In this role, I oversaw a five-member team and supported a volunteer board of directors whose mission was to improve a racially and economically diverse neighborhood. To address positive resolutions to chronic housing violations and behavioral/criminal issues, we established the city’s first problem-property caucus. Other accomplishments include:● Key partner in developing and funding a community-based economic development initiative for the Latino community with the Mercado Central.● Raised over $20,000+ annually for youth programming through an annual art fair that attracted up to 180 artists and 40,000 visitors. ● Analyzed, awarded, and managed contracts for $500,000+ in grants for youth enrichment programs.● Created partnerships with community leaders and law enforcement to maximize value of restorative justice program that served to reduce recidivism particularly with youth offenders.

In my first role with PRG, I partnered with community and nonprofit partners to support housing projects in concept development, financial feasibility analysis, architectural design, fundraising, land acquisition, real estate/finance closings, and government/community relations.We developed 100+ units of affordable housing for people with AIDS, victims of domestic violence, and the homeless and raised millions of dollars from government and private foundations.
