During over 20 years as an educator at both the secondary and post secondary levels, I’ve had numerous opportunities to develop and promote new educational programs. I’ve always enjoyed forming partnerships with the various stakeholders essential to ensuring a program's success. While working as a STEM Specialist for the Ogden School District, I partnered with organizations big and small to raise funds necessary to fulfill the district’s vision of promoting STEM education to underserved populations. Some of the more sizable grants I wrote were through the The U.S. Air Force, out of Hill Air Force Base, and defense contractor Northrop Grumman, both of whom were extremely generous in offering financial support to our programs. I was also able to work directly with a local philanthropic foundation to establish a significant endowment that provides perpetual funding to our schools.Since 2017, I’ve been fortunate to work with a computer science education nonprofit called Code.org as a workshop facilitator. In this capacity, I’ve traveled across the U.S. organizing and facilitating five-day summer workshops, as well as follow-up Saturday seminars during the school year. In August of 2019, prior to the pandemic, I helped pioneer a virtual format for these workshops specifically targeted toward Alaskan educators in remote villages. Once a month for eight months, I was able to meet online with roughly 15 Alaskan educators as we perfected a virtual model that we couldn’t have anticipated would become the nationwide standard practice for the next two years. As an educator, I’ve mainly taught computer technology classes to both high school and college students. Over the years, I've had numerous chances to teach computer classes as an adjunct for UVU. When I started, it was of course all in person, and I was on campus teaching two to four nights each week. Things have obviously changed in higher education, and especially in computer science, during the last 23 years, but I still had 28 online UVU students in my most recent class. Computer technology teachers have to constantly adapt to ever-changing technology, but over the years, this has given me the ability to quickly learn and master a steady stream of new software applications.I’ve thoroughly enjoyed teaching, but as my career advances, I’ve been seeking opportunities to branch out and take on new challenges. I earned my Masters of Education in 2021 and followed that with an administrative endorsement in 2022. Since then I’ve been looking for the right opportunity to take on a more managerial role.
