The role of Bar Team Member is twofold. The primary role in the job was to work both day and night shifts behind the Universities Union’s three bars serving a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to customers. Secondary role duties include delivering food service and serving both hot and cold drinks from the Sanctuary Bar, whilst maintaining the environment’s cleanliness. Both of these duties required up keeping the standard of service and cleanliness expected from a club that has been awarded Best Bar None: Gold Award for four years running.

During my time at Mount Pleasant, I assisted in all kinds of maintenance tasks, to include plumbing, joinery, and cleaning. Skills and training I received in my time in this role included a course in the basics of plumbing, and also lots of hands on experience in work outside of the hotel, covering the up keep of the grounds of the hotel as well. I had to balance this job role whilst studying for my GCSEs and A-Levels, which lay the foundations for the time management skills I developed and enhanced whilst at university.
