As a kid growing up in Northern Ireland, I had a shelf full of Dinosaur books and was naturally drawn towards Palaeontology. I studied Geology in Queens University, Belfast, then moved to London to complete a Masters in Micropalaeontology and PhD in Nannofossil Biostratigraphy at UCL. This specialised path led to employment as a Biostratigrapher in North Wales in 1996, with Fugro Robertson. I have remained in beautiful North Wales to this day, having established PetroStrat Ltd. here in 2001. I have been actively engaged in technical work until quite recently, including offshore (wellsite) work in the North Sea (Denmark, Norway & UK), eastern Canada, the US Gulf of Mexico, Mexico, Trinidad, Guyana, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote D’Ivoire, Cameroon, Mozambique, Egypt, Oman, and Brunei. I was instrumental in setting up overseas subsidiaries and am now focused on developing our subsidiaries in the USA, Canada, and the Caribbean.I’m proud that PetroStrat is now the world’s leading provider of Biostratigraphy services. Furthermore, we have developed a wider range of geological services (sedimentology/reservoir geology) and – very importantly – we are actively developing new applications to secure our place in the energy transition.Besides Geology I am passionate about sport fishing and marine conservation. I am a keen angler, targeting large fish on a catch & release basis and have participated in several tagging programs. I’m fortunate that my career affords occasional opportunities to combine my 2 passions, Palaeontology and Fishing!
