Worked with a 4-person team to repair and maintain steam and diesel-electric locomotives which included lapping valves, replacing a load regulator, and using a torch cutter and stick welder to fabricate parts. Helped with other aspects of the railroad including rail maintenance and working as a head brakeman on passenger trains.

Shanghai Suburb, China

Collaborated with a senior research scientist on experiments of etching channels in porous glass utilizing a femtosecond laser and helped develop methods to etch hollow structures in porous glass. Led a project to cut research aluminum using a high power laser and repaired broken laboratory equipment including water chillers and optical gates.
