Counselor
I worked in a group home program with mentally ill juveniles, as well as juveniles who were recently released from detention and are on parole. At CHR I was entrusted to help juveniles adapt to society with the goal to reunite with family members, or live independently. Specific responsibilities included: 1. teaching life skills, 2. administering medication, 3. managing the safety and nutritional health of the residents of the home, 4. working with police, schools, and the Department of Children and Families in times of crisis, or other struggles the residents went through, and 5. transporting the residents to other programs and appointments. At CHR I earned CPR and Medical Distribution certificates as well as TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) training.
