I am a recent college graduate with a diversity of experiences and skill sets. At 18 and 19, I tutored, taught and mentored elementary and middle school students in Spanish and English through the City Year Columbia AmeriCorps program in South Carolina where I was nominated Corps Member of the Year. I then served as a nurse's assistant at Oatfield Estates, a progressive retirement community in the Portland, Oregon area before relocating to Missoula, Montana for my undergraduate studies. Whilst a college student, I worked as a tech assistant and volunteered extensively with the University of Montana's exchange programs. Becoming a student ambassador to young people from distant lands and cultures inspired me to embark on self-funded academic adventures in Guatemala, Chile and Vietnam, each of which profoundly broadened my environmental and social awareness.Upon graduating with bachelors degrees in Spanish and environmental studies, I worked for a summer in hospitality as a butler on the banks of the Blackfoot River in Montana. I am now gaining competency and boots on the ground experience in the realm of forestry and fire science with the United States Forest Service, first as a member of a motorized trail crew and presently as a hotshot wildland firefighter. I am keen on making the most of my future off-seasons to travel, volunteer and work abroad, particularly in Latin America, Africa and Asia. I will leverage these expeditions to forge meaningful international connections with people and organizations who are committed to building a better, more equitable tomorrow for all.Intent on broadening my formal scientific background, I will seek opportunities to collaborate and participate in scientific research in the fields of climate change, wildlife and organismal biology, forestry and beyond.I will also pursue a graduate degree in the future, currently leaning towards sustainable design in Europe, Asia or South America.
