About David Scharfenberg

I am a 24-year veteran teacher, and also a veteran learner. My greatest privilege has been to help students learn the skills and knowledge they will need to be adults who care about and have the ability to help improve the world we live in. Beyond that, I have been extensively involved in working with peers and administrators to improve the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math education provided to our students. This involves curriculum and professional development at the school district, regional and state levels. I am a talented public speaker, and communicate articulately to deliver important skills and knowledge to adults so that they may be more effective in their own educational efforts.

In addition to my educational duties, it has been my pleasure and dream fulfilled to manage over ten acres of habitat restoration, accomplished primarily through volunteer and community efforts. In order to fund such work, I have secured over $200,000 in grants and gifts to accomplish projects like a greenhouse, bioswales, rain gardens, a direct-to-the-cafeteria fruit orchard, and now a boardwalk trail system that allows students of all abilities to access our habitat restoration, regardless of mobility.
