David L. Scher is the current President of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (“NYSTLA”). He attended Tufts University and Fordham University School of Law. He joined Block O'Toole & Murphy, LLP in 2003, and was made a Partner in 2012. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Scher worked for the Office of the New York State Attorney General, volunteered for a Civil Rights legal aid clinic and served as a law clerk for New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich. Mr. Scher has focused his practice on representing construction accident victims, as well as those seriously injured in motor vehicle collisions and other accidents. Mr. Scher has taken multiple million dollar verdicts, and secured settlements totaling hundreds of millions of dollars for his clients. In one recent year, he was involved in 3 of the top 5 personal injury settlements in the entire State of New York. Mr. Scher also runs the firm's complex motion and appellate practice. Mr. Scher has written an amicus curiae brief to the Court of Appeals on behalf of a trial lawyer bar association, regularly appears before the appellate division and authors articles on construction accident law topics that appear in respected legal publications such as the New York Law Journal and Bill of Particulars magazine. Mr. Scher is a member of NYSTLA's Labor Law and Judiciary Committees and also regularly lectures other attorneys around the State on construction accident law.
