My second "official" stint at API. I went from hourly wage to salaried employee here. 3 new machines were brought in during this time. In the past I have worked here through high school and college - summers and part time during those years. Much government work. We took on a vast array of different jobs. I did tool making and fixture building. I learned 3 different CNC controls and was able to work with an ERP system. We also computerized our offices and shop floor. I was in charge of shop floor management during this transitional period.

Day Shift -Set-up and operate CNC lathes. Develop new processes to cut cycle times. Introduced standard ISO type insert tools to reduce set-up time and tool bit sharpening. Receive and oversee installation of new Cincom LT-1 swiss style screw machine. Set-up, program and operate said machine. Train new employees. Work closely with Engineers on prototype parts and new product development.I did some nice work at MLA, especially cutting cycle times and prototyping. The prototype work was conventional as well as CNC machining.

Night Shift - Set-up and operate CNC Lathes and machining centers. Sharpen tool bits, offhand grinding and surface grinder set-ups. Maintain & repair tooling as needed. Leave reports for dayshift.

Monitored and maintained large rotating West Amp oven/dryer and the product coming through it. Developed trend charts . Set-up, broke down and cleaned machinery everyday. The oven was 12 feet in diameter and 24 feet high. Yes ! we made the famous bullion cubes in 5 flavors.
