I am expert legal practitioner with over 30 years of experience gained in both the Crown Prosecution Service and the Marine Management Organisation (MMO). The MMO regulates the seas and provides a diverse set of services to people who want to put something in or take something out of our seas, as well as all those who may have a view about the activity.In my current role I lead a team of legal specialists to advise the MMO on its regulatory functions so that they are carried out in a lawful, proportionate and transparent way. My team provide advice based on the best available evidence to senior leaders in government. Our work is important because the correct enforcement of fisheries and environmental legislation in the seas around England results in marine activities being carried out in a sustainable way and safeguards rare, valuable and threatened habitats and marine species. In my previous role with CPS I gained experience in the management, handling and prosecution of the most serious and high profile criminal prosecutions as well as volume crime including HMRC prosecutions.My experience is underpinned by academic qualifications in law. I am a member of the Law Society. I am also a qualified higher court advocate (criminal) and have trained and assessed advocates in the CPS as well as leading on Fingerprint Examiners and Forensic Medical Examiners on behalf of National Police Improvement Agency. I am a dedicated, fair and confident leader, setting strategic direction for my team to ensure our legal provision meets the MMO’s objectives and those of wider government.
