Hi my name is David,I have cultural connections all across Western Australia from Jaru country to Yindjibarndi country right down to the south west in Nyoongar country.I have been a part of the mining sector in different fields of work over the past 12 years and counting, I started out in mining completing a certificate III in engineering - fabrication trade as a boilermaker welder with a mining construction company doing 4/1's on various sites across Western Australia, When the recession hit in 2015 I found it very difficult to find work which lead me to get my security license and become a Maritime Security Guard for the next 2 or so years on a 2/1 roster, that then lead into doing a Security Emergency Officer role with BHP on a week about roster.After all that I managed to get on board with Rio Tinto as an ATAS trainee and completed a traineeship as a Fixed Plant Reliability Technician (Lubie).I stayed in this role for 3 years before finally achieving my dream job as an Indigenous Support Advisor for the Greater Hope Downs Area where I currently work.I am passionate about my job because I understand the struggles of being an indigenous person in western society, I understand the level of support that's needed for our people and how to get our people to achieve their goals.I can also relate to the level of struggle we all go through as indigenous people trying to make it through western society.My ultimate goal is to achieve the highest position I possibly can, so that I'm able to influence even more of a change for my people within mining and get the company to be a desirable place to work by all indigenous people within the mining sector.
