About David Seif
David began his career in printing as cutter operator in the bindery dept. of a large Phoenix business forms printer. In short time he was transferred to the prepress department to begin training as camera operator/imposition & layout tech and stripper/plate maker for the six presses on the shop floor. In the following six years David worked for this company he advanced to Prepress Department Lead and was given the responsibility of parsing and organizing the workflow assignments to four prepress operators under his supervision. In order to remain industry current David continued his education by enrolling in night college courses focusing only on those that would enhance his digital knowledge and assist him in department managment. These included such courses as advanced QuarkXpress, InDesign, Photoshopand Illustrator as well as digital prepress, digital color principles and digital photography among others. David's combination of traditional and digital prepress and actual press experience placed him in a good position to handle the wide variety of technologies and methods and fully understand the mechanics of the design/prepress/ printing process. After Six months as operator, David went through HP's Level II course in advanced operations and troubleshooting of the Series 3 and 5 Indigo digital printing systems and variable-data insertion methods using the HP SmartStream and RIP.With almost 25 years in the business, 17 of those in Digital printing, David has a comprehensive understanding of this industry starting from the conceptual phase to design, prepress, digital printing, variable-data print-on-demand marketing, modern workflow systems and fulfillment using data-driven print collateral in addition to all the peripheral areas that keep a modern print production facility operating.

Digital Press Operator
Third-shift operator on the HP Indigo 7800, XEROX iGen 5 and XEROX 1000i series Digital printing presses. I was responsible for all press troubleshooting, repairs and preventative maintenance, consumables and parts inventories in addition to daily workflow. Daily production analysis included the parsing of work orders to determine priority, special handling pre- and post-press, ensuring all components are available and ready. Preflight and process jobs from server to press utilizing native HP SmartStream, the “Hot Folder” system and Harlequin RIP with the Indigo, and Fiery RIP for the XEROX side. Unfortunately I am not a "night person" so taking a 3rd shift position was extremely difficult for me and ultimately turned out to be a bad decision. I can only say that I learn from the mistakes I've made, this being no different. In the future I will not be accepting any permanent 3rd shift offers, regardless of the compensation package. Some things just can't be solved with money.
