My role primarily involves research, technical writing, content production, and analysis: enhancing explainability, designing creative solutions, forecasting future challenges, and optimising exploitable outcomes. My work has spanned a range of government sector projects in the fields of: - Defence; - Cybersecurity; - AI and Machine Learning; and - Geopolitics.Project achievements have included: - Leading the development and building of an interactive OSINT database which tracked and catalogued subthreshold activity of malicious state and non-state actors. - Building an OSINT corpora to improve manual and statistical analysis of text sources, resulting in more efficient information discovery and synthesis. - Initiating research into improving the accuracy of NLP models by incorporating underused aspects of linguistic theory (such as pragmatics). - Conducting foundational research to support generation-after-next technologies in areas of cyber defence and analytical workflows. - Leading the research and writing of multiple successful bids. - Producing a whitepaper on how to optimise the engagement and performance of small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) in procurement supply chains. - Coordinating the company blog, ensuring monthly publications on a broad range of engaging topics.

A volunteer project that discusses academic ideas through a pop culture lens, designed for a non-academic audience. I write and edit articles on linguistic ideas found in video games (e.g. Moon Studio’s Ori and the Blind Forest) and books (e.g. Pullman’s Northern Lights).

- Built and curated a 6,000,000-word database using Excel. Taught myself Python, SQL, and R to query it, web scrape data, and create attractive data visualisations. - Proofread three doctoral theses, ensuring zero typographical and formatting errors. - Statistically analysed data in R using generalised linear models, mixed effects regression, and hypothesis and correlation tests. - Pivoted strategy to optimise data collection and analysis methods, and ensure actionable outputs from corpus. - Developed creative methodological solutions to unique problems that combined quantitative and qualitative analysis. - Presented highly-specialised research to technical and non-technical audiences at both local and international conferences. - Invited to collaborate with international colleagues (University of Kyoto) in the production of an edited volume of papers. - Mentored peers in best research practice.

- Proofread a new text on historical language transmission within a very tight deadline, ensuring zero typographical errors.

- Improved on seminar curriculum by adding practical instruction on emerging computational methods for language analysis.- Always strove to deliver constructive, individually-tailored feedback on students’ essays. - Consistently achieved “outstanding” student feedback.

- Helped to build the Pilot Historical Thesaurus of Scots by uncovering lexical data in select semantic fields – including the widely reported on ‘snow’ (“Scots have 421 words for snow” – BBC News) – and tagging them in an easily-navigable Excel database.

- Translated into Scots and copyedited an abridged edition of Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ for early learner readers: both on schedule and within word limit.
