About David Selfe

I'm a researcher, technical writer, and linguist trained in mixed-method approaches with a keen interest in how the integration of language theory can elevate machine learning and AI - especially in the context of Defence - and better support decision-making. Problem-solving is my chief focus: using forensic analysis and outside-the-box thinking to overcome difficulties with realistic, workable, and transformative solutions. Refusing to ever accept defeat makes me the ideal creative thinker (but also unbearable to play boardgames with). I wrote my PhD thesis on a type of apostrophe so it’s fair to say I’m detailed-oriented: no datum is too small to be meaningful, it’s all about context. As such, I’m interested in in developing well-functioning, dynamic relationships between qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Big data is great, and even better when you look down the microscope. If you'd like to read my thesis (and what could be a more stimulating way to spend your Saturday afternoon than reading up on the history of a highly-specific non-lexical marker), you can find it here: https://theses.gla.ac.uk/82448/13/2021SelfePhD.pdf
