Although the people that I had the opportunity to work with (both inside and outside of the company) were great, I had a hard time sleeping at night knowing that I was legally being a loan shark. I know that sounds a bit extreme but we charged 599% interest on 2 week loans and never required that the individual pay more than the interest on the loan. As long as they would write out another post dated check for two weeks from the day that they paid their interest in cash, we would continue to keep their account active and valid. There are literally some people who were paying a couple of hundred dollars every two weeks on a $700 loan for several years and never touch the principle. I just couldn't continue to do this to people. Granted we never forced them to come in the door and sign the paperwork, we allowed them to make this decision that would send them down a path to an eternal poor house. It is definitely legal but I couldn't handle the ethics of it. It just wasn't for me. I chose to go and pick up trash and clean bathrooms instead...no literally! I left and took a job at an elementary school as a maintenance/custodian. The job was much more physically challenging, but I never felt like I was doing a diservice to the students or faculty.

My duties and responsibilities as Pastor included preaching, teaching, counseling and everything that comes with being the pastor of a church. I was responsible for finding and implementing the study materials that fit with our beliefs. In addition, I performed wedding and funeral services too. This was one of the most rewarding while at the same time challenging positions I have ever held. I enjoyed bring there for my congregation and getting to prepare in depth studies of Scripture. I also enjoyed having the opportunity to speak publicly three times a week. Oddly enough, even though I was supposed to be the "expert" in the church, I found that I learned so much more from them than I ever imagined.
