Dave Shears is a lover of the arts. After receiving a bass guitar for Christmas at fourteen years old, his passion has been the music industry. From various high school bands to founding the award winning East Coast pop rock group RocketRocketShip, Shears has performed in venues all across Canada opening for some of the country's biggest artists including Marianas Trench, The Arkells, Shawn Desman, Tokyo Police Club, and Tyler Shaw. Shears has a background in arts and non-profit administration and management. After graduating from the College of the North Atlantic's Executive Office Management program, he spent three and a half years as the Programs Manager of MusicNL where he specialized in grant writing, release strategies, budgeting, touring strategies, and event production. With business partner Matt Dines, Shears also owns and operates the music services Company Hurricane Music. At Hurricane Music his main focus is Artist Management, and specifically the three artists on his roster: Baraka, Rosemary Lawton, and With Violet. However, he is also involved with many other facets through Hurricane Music such as event production, grant writing, consultations, and marketing. As a recent nominee of the Association for New Canadians RBC Diversity Leadership award, Shears has a strong philosophy in growing the music industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. He was instrumental in removing barriers for non permanent residents as well as youth applying for arts funding. Shears believes in fostering the talent of the province and helping artists achieve their goals.
