Farmington, Nm Four Corners Power Station

Senior Engineer responsible for capital and maintenance projects for the five steam generating units including generator repairs and maintenance; step up transformers specification, procurement, repairs, and replacement; also auxiliary and station service transformers. Supported switchgear maintenance, repairs and improvements. Lead root cause investigations into system failures including recovery of those systems. Supported protection and controls upgrades for the generator protection, transformer protections, and switchgear protection. Upgraded the generator field ground fault protection. Developed the interface between the protective relays and the DCS so the operators could see a mimic of the relay from panel. Upgraded the river pumping station switchgear to include soft starters for the large pumps. All controls were upgraded. Oversaw the demolition of the existing switchgear, installation and startup of the new equipment. Responsible for all generator testing including Polarity Index (PI), DC Leakage, Hi-Pot test, Power Factor Test (Doble), and Winding Resistance. Performed most of the tests both pre outage and after outage maintenance work. Flux probe tests were conducted during generator startup. Reviewed contractor test results for outage related testing and repairs including wedge tightness tests, EL CID test, and end turn vibrations tests.Installed new GSU transformers which include equipment specification, procurement, factory acceptance testing, removing existing transformers, installing new units, monitoring the assembly and filling process, and startup testing.

Phoenix, Arizona Area

Electrical engineer responsible for managing and supporting projects such as GSU transformer installations, HV breaker installations, substation commissioning, power plant startup testing, switchgear installation and maintenance. Oversaw the equipment testing of the Redhawk Combined Cycle plant near Phoenix. This included testing all electrical apparatus including GSU, Auxiliary and station service transformers, testing all protective relays for switchgear feeders, motor protection, transformer protection, and generator relays. Identified equipment that needed to be corrected. Assisted in the assembly of the GSU transformers including oil filling.Installed switchgear in new substations, made repairs to switchgear and breakers if needed. Preformed startup and checkout work to insure safe and reliable energization of new equipment. Installed new breakers in existing equipment.Completed an extensive training class in high voltage dead tank breaker installation, service, and repairs.
