Numerous feasibility and master planning proposals for resorts and leisure facilities in Cape Verde, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique and Venezuela.Major projects in other sectors include a clinic in Coimbra, diplomatic facilities (embassies) and banks in Lisbon.His professional activities have allowed him to become familiar, as lead designer and project planner with all the responsibilities of liaison with clients, planning authorities, contractors, design engineers and project managers, throughout the project cycle. St George e Sinclair carried on some of the work from BDP’s ‘pilot’ Lisbon Office and built up an interesting curriculum in a period of about 8 years. BDP’s office in Lisbon came into Portugal following the opening of the HQ for Banco Espirito Santo in Lisbon for which Alan St George had been the architect. We carried out further work for BESCL, and the HQ for BPI Banco Portugues de Investimentos in Porto. Several attempts were made to enter the tourist sector and we carried out major design work with BDP in London for the Santa Monica Resort near Comporta and competition designs for hotels in Madeira and the Algarve.

This was effectively my "Practical Experience Year" as defined by the RIBA. IPDS was set up between Nigel Moor Associates and Cubitts and had powerful partners. The objective was to instigate major planning work both in UK and abroad. It was still in the "incubation" phase when I joined and we developed work for several UK housing developments in Wales and the Didcot area. I handled the initial design for preliminary planning applications of several of these projects which were later taken… Show more This was effectively my "Practical Experience Year" as defined by the RIBA. Parallel to this the firm was putting out feelers for work in the Middle East and amongst other things, I prepared presentations for a shopping centre for Bahrein. More interesingly I was sent to Ghana where IPDS was trying to secure a deal with the local "Bank of Housing" which had just been set up. I was there for about a month and had the opportunity of working with a number of senior people there while developing plans for a first project. Show less

Macdonald Educational had overcrowded offices in Soho, London, which they loved. Leaving college, and advert was put on the board for a student architect to oversee their moving to new offices in the City (which they didn't like so much) for which I applied. My job was to laise with the architects and builders of the new offices and organize the whole move and help the emotionally strung staff to take only what they really needed, and junk the rest. My "year out" in the middle of the RIBA course, It was an enriching experience. I worked on refit projects for Boots, Barclays Bank, and two new schools near Nottingham. The office handled both one off and standardized housing and I was involved in projects a contemporary house, a set of four "Georgian" houses, and setting out drawings for a major housing project which the office had won previously in competition, all in the Nottingham area.
