This role has lead me to more formally expand my interest in human health, working to explore the impact vaccination might have on antimicrobial prescription and resistance. This involves utilising large electronic health record datasets in the UK, investigating the impact influenza vaccination might have on AMR, and collaboration with ongoing vaccine implementation trials (malaria and pneumococcal) in Malawi.

Continuing my work on antimicrobial prescription and resistance surveillance in companion animals, I have expanded my interest to encompass investigating means of using data to prompt positive improvement in antimicrobial prescription decision-making. My role also sees me taking responsibility for provision of regular health surveillance reports and supervision of a large number of varied research projects utilising SAVSNET data

My project focused on national surveillance of antimicrobial prescription and resistance in companion animals residing in the UK. I worked with the Small Animal Veterinary Surveillance Network (SAVSNET) based at the University of Liverpool, utilising large volumes of electronic health record data from voluntary veterinary practices and laboratories.
