Continuing work on secure communications military project. (See below) Tasks include: Redesign, simulation, implementation and test of 2 ACTEL FPGA’s using Viewlogic and Actel Designer software. These two PGAs performed system control and data processing tasks, and reduced chip count from 1200 to fewer than 600 ICs (on a very large PCB). Redesign of low-power battery backup circuits for long term battery life.

Port and rewrite low level hardware drivers in C code and assembly language on a Motorola 68302 CPU for software migration to a new hardware platform. In addition to new hardware, new capabilities were added at the system level. Y2K.

Design of portions of a secure communications facility based on Intel CPUs and the VL-BUS standard including CPU, FLASH file system, high speed (ECL) communications, and redundancy/redundant security on all critical circuits. Wrote graphical C language tools for configuring plasma display. Authored C language test and diagnostic routines. Received Recognition from NSA (National Security Agency) for efforts.

Developed XILINX and ALTERA FPGA's including state and timing machines, comparators, and combinatorial logic used in datacom. Redesigned a control panel to update from rocker switches (which have inherent memory) to membrane keypad. Microcontroller based implementation included failsafe redundancy to ensure that keyswitch positions would be maintained. Performed this project on an accelerated schedule to meet yearly shareholder meeting conference.

NuTone Intercom ProjectImplementation of a multi-station, multi-channel, multi-drop, software based intercom with radio, tape Deck, 2 line speakerphone, and answering machine. Collaborated on both system software architecture and system hardware architecture. Specific duties included developing the speakerphone hardware, and writing all software and drivers associated with the telephone - telephone/answering machine interface

Supported the integrated voice/data (ISDN -like) telecommunications system described below. Customer installation and applications programming for the data network.

Worked on design of digital telephone, digital line card, T1 card set, and other datacom hardware using an ISDN-similar network, PCM, TDM, and packet switching technologies. Wrote extensive diagnostics for these projects in assembler and PL/M. Performed PC board layout and debugging. Designed IBM-PC card with SDLC and DRAM buffering. Wrote diagnostics in 8086 assembler.

Assisted designing high capacity EDAC (Error Detect and Correct) memory arrays. Worked on development of Intel “Multi-bus” cards utilizing CP/M and CP/M 86 operating systems. Designed custom ATE (automated test equipment) and authored diagnostics primarily in 8086 assembly code, also using 8080, 8085, and 8048 code.
