As the resident IMF customs advisor for West Africa (AFRITAC West 2), I am a very experienced solutions designer, technical expert and project manager in the areas of customs, trade facilitation, border management and good governance.Originally I was with UK Customs & Excise, responsible for national and European policy development on border controls, measures to tackle economic crime and money laundering and the establishment of the EU single market.I then worked for the EU as a technical expert and project manager, supporting countries in the process of EU accession in the areas of customs and border management.Subsequently I worked for Crown Agents Ltd as a principal advisor, project manager and programme director, on business development, business winning, project design and delivery.I then worked an expert advisor for Nathan Associates on a USAID program in Moldova, providing advice and assistance in implementation of the DCFTA between Moldova and the EU, and on implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement.In my current post, I am the resident Customs Advisor for the IMF West Africa Customs Technical Assistance Centre, based in Ghana. From there I support and advise the customs administrations of Ghana, Cabo Verde, The Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone on customs reform issues.I have won and managed contracts in excess of 50m USD and have worked on projects for most major donors including the World Bank, UNDP, EU, USAID, DFID and others.Countries worked in on a long-term basis include UK, France, Belgium, Slovenia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Albania, Moldova and Ghana. Shorter-term experience includes Russia, Ukraine, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Malawi, DRC, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria & Indonesia.
