Medicines for All expands access to pharmaceuticals in low and middle income countries through innovative process chemistry. As the head of development, I was responsible for portfolio management, technical deliverables, and resource prioritization. Achievements include:• New processes resulting in projected raw material cost reductions of: 20% (lamivudine, high volume HIV treatment), 94% (molnupiravir, COVID-19), 18% (pretomanid), 47% (remdesivir triazine), and 95% (MMV0048, malaria treatment).• Cytidine route to Molnupiravir adapted for large scale manufacturing by Indian generic firms (>250 MT in 2021 for COVID -19 treatment)• Built external front-end research capability (China), late-stage development capability (India), in-house professional research staff, and high-throughput experimentation capability. • Supervised workflows of 3 PhD chemists, 4 postdocs, 2 graduate students, 4 external academic groups (subcontractors—MIT, GT, UGraz, UMainz), and 8 CRO/CDMO FTE.

Implemented continuous flow chemistry that enabled API commercial route development. Explored reactions from bench to prep lab scale establishing fundamentals of reaction performance to improve scalability and access traditionally non-accessible reaction conditions.

I operated within the New Opportunity Exploration group in new product development. This front-end innovation team combined marketing and technical expertise to seek transformative growth platforms for the Chemicals business. Projects were in the packaging coatings, adhesive, mining, and construction sectors.• Initiated two projects demonstrating technical proof-of-concept and sizable market potential ($41 MM and $84 MM NPV) • Received executive level investment and transferred to the Rapid Commercialization team. • Decreased use of a water repellent sizing agent by 40% at commercial scale by improving wood coating emulsions.

As a member of the Pine Chemicals division I developed reagents (surfactants) for froth flotation to aid in the purification of raw mineral ores for the mining industry. I designed fatty acid collectors, depressants and modifiers to use in phosphate and iron beneficiation. A new, low-dosage depressant was commercialized for lead and zinc flotation circuits.

During my stay as a postdoc in the Jamison Group, I worked in the field of continuous flow synthesis toward the development of a Pharmacy on Demand (PoD), a small footprint manufacturing unit capable of synthesizing, purifying, and formulating consumable APIs from raw chemical building blocks. • I led design of synthetic routes for the API under a continuous regime with emphasis on economical reagents, high rates of reaction, and ease of purification.• 4 publications in Science Magazine, Angewandte Chemie, Chemical Science and Journal of Flow Chemistry• PoD unit commercialized by On Demand Pharmaceuticals• Diphenhydramine route commercialized at 300 kg scale by Wanbury Limited
