Responsible for determining claims across the Employment Tribunal jurisdiction including complex discrimination and equal pay cases. Other responsibilities included managing hearing lists, judicial discipline and appointments and training both legally qualified and lay colleagues. Devised the 2009 selection exercise for ET lay member appointments. Co-authored ET Guide to compensation for loss of pension rights in 2003 and wrote published work on tribunal procedure in 2004. Also delivered training at the European Law Academy, Trier to European judicial colleagues on EU discrimination directives and particularly the burden of proof.

Commanded TA Infantry battalion for 3 years 1991-1994. One of 2 Deputy Commanders 54 Infantry Brigade briefly; then TA Colonel adviser to GOC 2 Division and also President of the then Territorial Commissions Board selecting officer potential. Served as Assistant Secretary General of the Inter-allied Confederation of Reserve Officers, a NATO affiliated organisation 1996-1998. Came off the inactive reserve in 2006 and deployed for 5 months to Iraq as an operational lawyer in the Office of the Judge Advocate General, Multinational Corps HQ Baghdad. Awarded the Bronze Star. Currently a trustee of the Mercian Regiment and the Nottingham Regimental Museum.
