St. Joseph Health Humboldt | St. Joseph Hospital (SJH) and Redwood Memorial Hospital (RMH) Accelerated growth and provided daily operational leadership for two hospitals across three campuses: SJH ($318M net revenue and 138 beds) and RMH, a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital and 10-bed general hospital ($58M net revenue). SJH’s services includes cancer program, open-heart surgery, cardiac cath labs, general surgery, EDU, ICU and PCU, sleep center and outpatient imaging center, among others. RMH’s services include medical-surgical unit, ED, ICU and general/specialized surgery, among others. Served on system-level Clinical Effectiveness Committee, Laboratory Strategic Committee and Joint Operating Committee of the Medical Foundation Group. Interim Chief Executive Officer (June 2017—February 2018), but maintained authority for hospital operations. Led six executives (1,200 FTEs) and reported to Board of Trustees.

Recruited to transition not-for-profit, 141-bed community hospital into a for-profit organization. Charted multi-pronged strategic plan that emphasized physician recruitment, business development, cost management, productivity improvements and facility/equipment capital enhancements. Managed nine directors and $50M budget.

Recruited for one-year engagement to lead cross-functional team that steered financial and operational turnaround at a not-for-profit health system in Billings, Montana. Developed collaborative teams that identified $22M in organizational savings. Designed data collection and documentation template for management of new initiatives.

Tapped to guide a 257-bed, regional provider located about 70 miles northeast of Atlanta as it transitioned from a not-for-profit organization to a for-profit entity with services that included an acute care hospital, wellness center and nursing home with 167 intermediate and skilled beds.

Drove growth and elevated productivity for a multi-campus provider focused on delivering ministry-based quality healthcare ($550M in annual gross revenue and 1,500 FTEs). Services included a 225-bed acute care medical center; an adult and gero-psych hospital; joint venture outpatient imaging center and regional laboratory; physician group; hospice; and home health, among others. Developed and executed strategic plan to enhance financial performance in wake of $2M drop in annual revenue. Led daily operations and team of eight executives and directors. Affiliated (50% owned) with Trinity Health System, Catholic Health Ministries.

Revitalized rural 150-bed hospital that was on the brink of closure due to poor financial management, lack of physicians and a negative public image. Challenged to complete three-year federal investigation into alleged Medicare fraud abuse that was underway upon arrival. Additionally, served as Administrator of McMinn Memorial Nursing Home; President of McMinn County Ambulance, Inc.; and President of Woods Memorial Foundation. Reported to Board of Trustees.
