Various development and test lead positions

Test Lead for Wellpoint, with small teams in Manila and Italy. Developed improved testing metrics for project teams, managed delivery of tested contact and resolution of issues for production releases, mentored test team on best practices in software test.

Leading a test automation team to develop strategies for automating smoke tests, regression tests and data creation processes across the program, alleviating the project from some of the manual test work load. Reviewing past Section 508 Accessibility compliance test efforts, and developing a plan to ensure compliance for future releases with better reliance on tools. Mr. Speck is also working with leadership on process improvement goals for the broader test program.

Section 508 Accessibility Test: Plan, execute and report results of compliance to accessibility standards. Acted as test lead to various teams, helped to transition new team members, and delivered results and status for troubled areas. Participated in the overall test status collection and presentation to the client. Additionally, have offered ideas and solutions to streamline test processes as part of continual improvement efforts.

Developed the test plan and process for a proof-of-concept in implementing an interoperability profile for healthcare provider directory services. Developed Directory Services Markup Language (DSML) test case data with XML wrappers for provider data feed and query transactions per the Healthcare Provider Directory (HPD) profile. Executed and reported results of testing against the plan. Prepared test data for Connectathon and HIMSS conference demonstrations. Authored the IBM HPD Test Report for client review.

Test Manager for Secure Flight with responsibilities in hiring, mentoring, delegating and evaluating the test team; project planning and release planning; setting the test strategy for the program and working with other area managers on the process improvements in the development life cycle. Management of functional, system and performance test scope in a modified iterative development environment with short term release cycles. Acting backup for performance test execution. Led and participated in the Section 508 Accessibility Compliance test effort.

David set the Test Strategy at the outset of a new development paradigm for FEMA EADIS as Test Manager for the program. He interfaced with the management team to develop and document the software development business processes to be leveraged across twenty-four work orders.

As part of the application integration test team, Mr. Speck's testing focused on quality and usability to drive changes in client systems to improve the user experience in processing grant applications for research awards. He also worked with the other test leads to streamline the test process and eliminate redundancies.

Mr. Speck was the test lead for LoadLeveler, a product for managing workload on small and large clusters. While working to redefine the test strategy with a focus on usability, he led the test team through major shifts in automation improvements and globalization with IBM China. While delivering quality enhancements that helped the product move into new markets, such as Blue Gene supercomputing and Web-enabled workload management, David worked with the broader test community to drive process improvement and a move to an iterative development model. As the test representative to the Chief Engineering Team, he ensured the development and delivery strategy maintained testing as a focus for the team.

Provided the functional test specifications and test guidance to a team of testers for a suite of applications for project management. He helped to improve the software quality by focusing on usability and paths through the system, while interfacing with the development team on design issues and test strategy.

Mr. Speck was requested to manage the test process for a new computer music software venture from IBM Research, Music Sketcher, giving users the ability to create music with musical blocks rather than notation. He managed the test process in an iterative development model, and implemented a defect tracking system, documented the test process and created use cases. His role quickly expanded to also manage the build process, create the installation package, create basic automation for demos, and team with marketing to implement focus groups of both children and adults and process their feedback.

Mr. Speck was part of the support staff that assisted IBM Research personnel with workstation, network and software issues. His Windows expertise made him a valuable source as the lab moved away from OS/2, and his high customer satisfaction caused many to specifically request his support when problems arose. Because of his abilities to adapt quickly, Mr. Speck was requested to roll out the installation of SAP for the Research accounting staff, and accomplished this with minimal impact to the staff.

Led testing of a new IBM venture into edutainment software with KidRiffs, released commercially in April 1995 as a musical exploration product for children ages five through ten. In addition to testing with a focus on how children use the computer interface, he also provided input to the artists and technical writers, coordinated the Midi device testing in Raleigh and provided product demonstrations in local schools and business expositions.

Mr. Speck led a team of three programmers in improving the worldwide service parts forecast, moving from straight line historical methods to geometric trends. He provided custom parts forecasts and financial data used in negotiations with third-party suppliers, sales and asset recovery services. In addition, David helped improve the operating environment with one-on-one system help and education.
