Both my professional experience and public service exemplify my passion for leading large, complex organizations through a continuous cadence of improvements. My work demonstrates success in optimizing multi-faceted sets of criteria, including customer/beneficiary experience, risk management and financial results. For decades, I have fostered dynamic, collaborative cultures populated by diverse corps of subject matter experts united in achieving key business objectives. As the EVP, Head of Consumer & Business Banking, and Madison Market President for Associated Banc-Corp, I drive a $400 million annual pretax P&L and lead a team of roughly 1,900 colleagues across our branch, business banking, and consumer lending businesses. Owning the bank's retail channels, I've dramatically upgraded our digital platforms while optimizing our branches and contact centers. Our retail bank over-indexes relative to peers on several growth metrics and ranks #1 in J.D. Power's study of Retail Banking Satisfaction in the Upper Midwest. I've achieved this progress while maintaining all appropriate risk and expense disciplines.As the longest-tenured member of our Executive Leadership Team, I serve on internal committees and boards including asset-liability management and ESG strategies, and aid our CEO and CFO in preparing investment community communications. I have also been an integral player in enterprise-wide strategic initiatives ranging from pandemic response to balance sheet repositioning to M&A. Most notably in my public service, I was the governor-appointed Chairman of the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, overseeing investment management of the ninth-largest US public pension plan ($150 billion) for more than 600,000 beneficiaries across Wisconsin. In that role, I set the compensation and incentive strategy for the state’s most highly compensated employees, attracting and retaining top-tier talent. I also led three leadership successions and the restructuring of the Executive Director role. Wisconsin's plan is fully-funded, widely recognized as one of the top plans in the US and generated more than $3 billion in returns above benchmarks during my tenure. Earlier in my career, I held various leadership roles in multiple business lines at JPMorgan Chase (formerly Bank One Corporation) and US Bancorp (formerly First Bank System).
