Dr. Stites has a wide range of responsibilities at Taylor Engineering, ranging from management of a major coastal management planning project sponsored by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and India to ecological modeling of the lower St. Johns River. In addition, Dr. Stites provides valuable client management and business development activities to maintain and expand the Taylor Engineering client list and project opportunities. As Team Leader for an ADB Sustainable Coastline Protection and Management Implementation Project, Dr. Stites travels to India frequently to manage this major coastline management technology and management transfer project for the state of Maharashtra. Other current major activities include ecological modeling of the lower St. Johns River animal communities to evaluate potential impacts of federal channel deepening on those and other ecosystem components and support to Florida Inland Navigation District planning for and management of the Intracoastal Waterway on the east coast of Florida. Dr. Stites came to Taylor Engineering in 2004 after 4 years as a senior environmental scientist with CH2M Hill following 13 years at the St. Johns River Water Management District. Hired as a senior environmental scientist to lead diagnostic studies for restoration of hypertrophic lake Apopka, Dr. Stites rose to the position of project manager for the $150 million dollar restoration of the Lake Apopka ecosystem. In both positions Dr. Stites' enjoyed the opportunity to solve stimulating and complex technical problems in aquatic ecosystems and to manage large, multi-faceted projects that involved a wide range of stakeholders and technical problems to resolve in sustainable ways. Dr. Stites academic career began at Florida Presbyterian College (Eckerd) in St. Pete Florida, followed by a Master's Degree in Applied Biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Biology / Aquatic Ecology from Emory University.
