David formed Great Notions Corporation as a corporate vehicle to design and develop from concept through completion a wide variety of products for numerous companies. Some examples follow:David has developed molded plastic metal and wood office products for Deflecto Office Products (5 patents), Advantus (8 patents), MMF (21 patents) – all of which are successfully sold through mass market, big box stores and internationally. Passionate about history, aviation and architecture, Stravitz has created the very successful faithfully produced Lefton’s Roadside USA collection, consisting of 177 HO and O scale replicas. Among them were diners, railroad stations, firehouses, trolley cars, cinemas, Victorian queens, churches, and Radios. He is the owner of 300+ Copyrights and 157+ U. S. Patents. Over the years, he has applied for and been issued a number of Trademarks.He has developed products for Business Week, Aviation Week and Space Technology, US News and World Report, Better Homes and Gardens, The Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Association, The US Navy Memorial, The Danbury Mint, The Smithsonian, Airbus Industries, McGraw Hill, Readers Digest, The RCA Music Club, Avon Products, Time Life, Lennox Collection, Kenton Catalog, The National Historical Society, and more. These creations include The Jet’s of Desert Storm for the Danbury Mint consisting of 8 pewter replicas , Civil war replicas, and replicas of the Airbus’ fleet, as well as the famous China Clipper for Pan Am. He also reproduced 12 pure silver ingot replicas of military award medals for The Vietnam Veterans Association and 12 Famous Fighters of WW2. David created a broad range of photography accessories for the advanced amateur and professional photographer. Among them was the Ambico Creative filter system consisting of 100-plus accessories resulting in a number of utility patents.

His broad interest in photography led him to the discovery of 500 8×10 negatives of old New York from 1910 to 1948, including more than 150 images of the day-by-day construction of the Chrysler Building. He has authored two books resulting from this discovery: “The Chrysler Building, Creating an Icon Day by Day” (Princeton Architectural Press-2002) and “New York, Empire City 1920-1945” (Harry N. Abrams 2004). He has lectured on this discovery at the Smithsonian, The Museum of the City of NY, The Urban Society, Cooper Union, and The Art Deco Society. From 1987 to 2000, David was President of SBS Industries, a manufacturer of injection molded and ready-to-assemble (RTA) wood products directed to office and home organization. He sold the plastic injection molding division of SBS to Newell Rubbermaid (NWL- NYSE) in late 1999. For the next six years, he went on to work as an independent design consultant, developing and inventing an additional thirty products that were patented and commercialized under the Eldon, Newell, Rubbermaid and Rolodex brands of Newell. In 2000, David sold SBS’s wood products division to Safco Office Products, a division of Liberty Diversified International.

David’s first entrepreneurial venture was in his mid-twenties in Puerto Rico where he was living and working for NCR’s South American headquarters. He brought together Sinclair (BP Oil) and investors in the states, to develop the Island’s first and second fully automatic car wash on two ¾ acres sites, complete with gas pumps. After selling his share in the car washes and returning to the states, he formed his own companies, and never received a salary again from a company he did not own.
