As a Health and Safety Inspector, I ensure that dutyholders comply with health and safety legislation through proactive inspections and incident investigation. Whilst working for HSE I undertook a number of roles:2011 – Present, Hazardous Industries Division.As a Regulatory Inspector in HSE's Hazardous Industries Division, I inspect high hazard sites in the Petrochem industry that fall under the COMAH Regulations, including large national and international companies. I ensure they have robust risk control systems to control their Major Hazard Risks. My role includes making proactive inspections and audits of Safety Management Systems, Emergency Response arrangements and Human Factors. My role also involves assessing how cultural and organizational factors impact on safety, including the management of organizational change2014-15 Construction DivisionWorking as construction inspector In central London. Proactive Inspection of sites ranging from house renovations to city office blocks being constructed by the largest principal contractors. Several investigations including Prosecution of a large electrical contractor.2005 – 2011, Field Operations Division (FOD); InspectorI was responsible for assessing and securing compliance with health and safety legislation in an extremely diverse range of industry sectors, including hospitals, waste management, general manufacturing, public services, engineering workshops, motor vehicle repair, gas safety etc, gaining a working knowledge of safety standards across most industry sectors. As an inspector, I have to make justified and proportionate enforcement decisions and have a proven enforcement and performance record. I plan and prioritise my own work in a dynamic environment with constantly changing and competing goals. Whilst working for HSE, I have worked in a number of high pressure situations, including being the lead HSE investigator in fatal incidents.

I was responsible for monitoring and supervising the waste management service contract on behalf of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council. My responsibilities included monitoring the service crews to ensure that they were adhering to good health and safety standards, being aware of the requirements of the contract and enforcing any deviations. The role involved engaging with a range of stakeholders including contractors, local authorities and other agencies to ensure the efficient running of the service. Additionally my role was customer facing and required me to deliver exemplary customer service with members on the public on a daily basis in the highly emotive world of waste collection. This required a range of communication skills, including being empathetic but also robust. I was responsible for the collection and assessment of waste collection data.

As Assistant Manager of the Leisure Centre, I was designated as the sites health and safety manager. This role included implementing the centre’s health and safety policies, writing risk and COSHH assessments, training and inductions of staff. I also managing of the buildings Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedule, including selection and monitoring contractors and budgeting. I was line manager to 15 staff, dealing with any human resource issues such as scheduling work rotas and delivering training. I was also responsible for managing and administering the membership system including Direct Debit processing and monitoring of centers Key Performance Indicators (both Financial and statistical). I also was given the role of the site customer relations Manager, dealing with any complaints, bookings and special events.
