After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Ayres managed the Department’s crisis operations and restructuring the FBI to focus on preventing further attacks. Ayres received the Department’s first Award for Strategic Leadership and the DEA Administrator’s Award as “an architect of innovation in drug enforcement”. In the U.S. Senate, Ayres held senior leadership positions and managed multi-million dollar campaigns for Senators Ashcroft, Bond and Danforth.
