A465 Heads Of The Valleys Section 2

Section Engineer responsible for the works within the Stats section. Planning of Stats diversions including liaising with Statutory Undertakers to ensure compliance with relevant codes and legislation; ensuring a safe system of work is in place; writing and reviewing risk assessments and method statements for self delivery and subcontract works; signing and authorising permits; supporting career and personal development, carrying out performance reviews, setting deadlines and managing workload.Liaising with client and design team; preparing and issuing the programme using P6; writing and maintaining quality management system for the Stats section; carrying out safety and quality audits of site; liaising and planning works with other sections.

Work Winning

Working within the tender team for the M4 Corridor around Newport project I was responsible for buildability and temporary works methodologies for the road over rail bridges and the culverts along the Gwent levels. I was also responsible for looking at the options available for delivering materials to site and logistic planning.

Hammersmith Flyover Phase 2

Senior Site Engineer responsible for the hoarding, pits and kerbs in the Bearings Team. Responsible for writing RAMS, ordering materials, writing and ensuring programme compliance and managing Graduate Site Engineers in the team.

Commercial Secondment with Transport for London, working in the Tunnels and Structures, Asset Management, Surface Transport Department. Responsibilities included; assisting TfL in the preparation of business cases, project briefs and related documents for structures on their capital renewals programme and STIP (2+) programme. The structures I was assigned (Lambeth Bridge Refurbishment/Strengthening, Westminster Bridge Refurbishment/Painting, Battersea Bridge Refurbishment and Twickenham Bridge Refurbishment) were among those approved for major investment up to 2022. I assisted TfL in the preparation of the project start up and justification documents to release funding and get initial approval to carry out feasibility / design works.

Cardiff, South Wales

Highway Engineer in the Highways and Transportation department in Cardiff. Responsibilities included producing feasibility reports for several schemes including a 200m culvert diversion through Llandovery; managing and designing a safety barrier upgrade scheme from in Kilgetty. Liaising with local authorities, providing buildability advice and managing on site investigation works.

Rhydyfelin Flood Alleviation Scheme

Senior Site Engineer responsible for the safe and successful completion of several sections of the project. This included the construction of a 2000m3 attenuation pond; numerous structures including debris catchers, overflow structures, culverts and headwalls; liaising with the Client/Designer to develop the ongoing design of the scheme during construction; managing several subcontract packages and associated on site works including metalwork, fencing, site clearance, bulk earthworks, RC structures and drainage (blockstone drainage channels and below ground concrete pipework). No accidents or cable strikes in my sections. Managed a Summer Placement Student and Graduate Engineer. Responsible for ensuring QA was in place and was the Quality Assurance Manager for the scheme.

A465 Heads Of The Valleys Section 2, Eci

Site Engineer responsible for the safe and successful completion of the Ground Investigation Surveys for the A465 scheme. Works comprised of extensive trial holes and boreholes in a variety of difficult locations around the footprint of the A465. Precise planning of the works was required to ensure the successful completion of the GI and survey works due to the large number of services, caves and areas of scientific and historical interest as well as varying geology and weather issues due to the location of the scheme. No service strikes during my time on the scheme.

Farringdon Station Construction Works

Site Engineer responsible for the successful completion of the CMS cable culvert constructed beneath a live platform. The platform was required to remain fully operational throughout the works which required the use of complex temporary works and comprehensive planning of all the works to ensure the integrity of the platform was not compromised. Successfully constructed the cable culvert with no accidents or cable strikes.Responsible for managing own section of works daily, consisting of managing various subcontractors along with in house operatives also ordering plant and construction materials. Managing the construction of a cable culvert beneath a live platform. Responsible for writing three weekly programmes in line with overall project programme. Writing updating and reporting on three-week programme. Raising RFI’s / Technical Queries to keep track of changes to the design along with delays to the programme and the relevant cost implications attached to these changes. Responsible for all works on Platform 1 including tunnelling, platform support systems, reinforced concrete structures, installation of structural steelwork, installation of access hatches and complete reinstatement of the platform. Extensive experience of the use of structures specifications. Raising quality control documentation to ensure that works are carried out as per the specifications and recorded accurately for future analysis by the client. Creating Design Briefs using accurate information and liaising with the Temporary Works department to produce temporary works drawings; inspecting of temporary works on site to ensure they are correctly installed. Writing lean and effective ITP’s in line with company IBP procedures.

Church Village Bypass

Site Engineer responsible for the successful completion of Station Road and Nant Celyn Roundabout section of the project and overall responsibility for the installation of the drainage for Nant Celyn Roundabout. Responsible for planning, setting out and keeping records for section of works. Writing Risk Assessments and Permits to work and ensuring all works were carried out correctly and adhered to relevant safety legislation. Weekly programming of work activities including organisation of resources as well as sequencing planned works. Experience of Highways specifications for carriageway construction, drainage construction and earthworks.

Design placement assisting on several key water projects including the drainage of the Church Village Bypass. Responsible for reading and analysing rainfall data to monitor areas at risk of flooding. Reporting on the problem areas associated with the drainage, reviewing the results of surveys carried out on drainage systems and organising subcontractors to remedy the problems.
