I lead Amgen Australia’s Government Affairs, Policy and Advocacy activities focusing on opportunities to ensure Australians can gain access to the best medicines to treat their illnesses, and get the care and support necessary to optimize outcomes.

I worked cross-functionally across multiple divisions of AbbVie to develop and execute high profile external opportunities including with commercial, market access, public affairs and medical colleagues. Proven project management and advocacy capabilities mixed with solid understanding of the PBS, biologic medicines and innovation policy. Developed multidisciplinary networks across the health and biotech sectors with public, private and government stakeholders.

I work in the Commercialisation Policy Branch and focus on policy measures to enhance capital flows into early stage innovative businesses. I am interested in the changing nature of early stage investments and policies that enable firms with disruptive business models to rapidly gain scale. I'm intrigued by the market-failure and system-failure debate, and its impact on innovation policy advice. In a more general sense, I am interested in structural change and the role of young innovative businesses in providing high paying rewarding employment opportunities for Australians.

Supported the Taskforce developing the Industry Innovation and Competitiveness Agenda. My role was focused around industry and research policy and in preparing the Agenda's cabinet submission.

I worked in the Sectoral Analysis Section within Manufacturing Performance Branch in Industry Division. My job was based on the strategic analysis of the manufacturing industry.

I worked within three divisions during the 2013 graduate program including AusIndustry, Industry and Innovation and Manufacturing. In the final rotation I developed a novel methodology to quantitatively asses Commonwealth business assistance into the chemicals and plastics industry. I developed mapping capability using the Google Maps api to examine business and funding clustering. The graduate program provided a solid introduction into the operation of government.

My PhD was based on the development of an assay for the amplification-free detection of viral nucleic acids. The research was focused on inventing a viral diagnostic platform for resource limited environments, such as sub-Sahara Africa. The research produced three articles published in peer reviewed journals and several conference presentations. I developed new conjugation chemistry for polymer brushes coated magnetic nanoparticles and biomolecules. The PhD stretched across several disciplines including organic chemistry, assay development, microfluidics, device engineering and robotics. I designed and built a prototype disposable device and magnetic-optical rig for prototyping point-of-care diagnostic devices..In 2009 I won UQ UniQuest’s TrailBlazer Business plan and pitch competition and completed a Graduate Certificate in Technology and Innovation Management within the UQ Business School.

I held the Technology Lead position for Lab901´s contribution to ITI Techmedia´s multi-parameter prototype Point-of-Care diagnostic platform. I managed a dynamic and highly motivated team of 12 scientist and engineers split across a number of disciplines including mechanical, polymer, optical and microfluidic engineering and assay development. I was heavily involved in research planning and implementing new technology directions from both engineering and biological perspectives. I was responsible for the recruitment of new team members and involved in Lab901’s deliverable commitment planning for ITI Techmedia´s Biosensor Project.

I was a research engineer developing polymeric lab-on-a-chip microfluidic systems using laser micromachining. Successfully developed microfluidic devices with pneumatic pumps and valves for automating biology.
