Dr David Tobin is Lecturer in East Asian Studies at the University of Sheffield. He has published on China’s ethnic policy, political violence, and Han-Uyghur relations in China Quarterly, Oxford Bibliographies, Inner Asia, and Positions - Asia Critique. His book with Cambridge University Press, Securing China's Northwest Frontier: Identity and Insecurity in Xinjiang, analyses the relationship between identity and security in Chinese policy-making and its impact on Han-Uyghur relations. His current research focuses on explaining China’s new ethnic policy and collecting Uyghur diaspora narratives on violence and trauma.
