Lead the IT Audit function at TalkTalk to develop and deliver the risk based IT internal audit plan in conjunction with the Head of Audit. Oversee the delivery of IT internal audit engagements by the IT audit team (inc co-sourced partners), whilst undertaking more complex, high profile or sensitive engagements. Oversee and manage TalkTalk’s external audit certification for ISO27001 (Information Security Management System) and the CESG Assured Service – Telecommunications (CAS-T).Other duties include attendance at strategic programme/project boards and Security Committee to provide IT risk and control advice; provide relevant MI relating to open audit actions to strategic governance boards; SME for audit analytics (IDEA) and audit management software (MKInsight)..

Lead on IT audit in the North West for public sector clients and nationally for a central government contract. Responsible for the development of IT assurance requirements for clients and the subsequent delivery and quality of audits.Engagement manager for three outsourced internal audit clients (£250m combined turnover). This involved developing the internal audit strategy and operational plan; oversee the quality and delivery of the plan; provide internal audit annual opinion and attendance at Audit Commitees. Lead on embedding data analytics for internal audit reviews in the North and sat on the national group for developing internal audit analytic provision.Line manage five Senior Auditors, involves coaching and developing, undertaking performance reviews; and general pastoral support.Chair North West Public Sector Business Development panel to facilitate and coordinate plans for growing business in the various sectors that we operate in.

Lead the IT & data audit team at Uniac. Responsible for the delivery and quality of IT assurance and statutory data assurance work across all Uniac clients. In addition, I am Head of Internal Audit (equivalent) at one client and provide senior client support at three other clients . The role is a varied and dynamic one. My client management responsibilities include developing the risk-based audit programme of work, risk assurance mapping and providing an annual opinion on internal control, governance, risk management and data quality. On a day to day basis this involves maintaing a good relationship with our clients; quality assurance of individual engagements (assurance, consultancy or investigations) and coordinating audit staff, including training and mentoring juniors. The role is also hands on. I am a specialist in providing assurance, training and consultancy for higher education regulatory compliance (HESES, HESA - student, student, finance, KIS, EMS). This has given me an in-depth understanding of HE-based corporate systems and data quality processes.I am also an IT audit specialist and I have experience auditing a wide range of activities, such as network (& perimeter) security; systems interoperability; IT disaster recovery; IT support & delivery; telephony/PBX; IT governance; IT strategy; IT procurement; mobile and cloud provision; information security; and cyber security. I have an appreciation of industry standards and best practice; COBIT; ISO27001; SANS 20 critical cyber security controls. As part of my IT audit responsibility to our clients, I established a risk-based approach to developing the IT audit strategy based on the good practice principles suggested by the IIA (GTAG11). I also lead on internal IT developments. I recently implemented electronic working papers MK-Insight. I continue to lead on the development of CAATs (IDEA and Qualys).

Supported the Head of Internal Audit in developing and delivering the risk-based internal audit programme, designed to provide Senior Officers and Members with independent and objective assurances on governance, risk and control. Responsible for delivery and quality of circa 900 days of the annual audit plan. Additional work responsible for included fraud investigations and National Fraud Initiative. Designed a new risk based approach for auditing Local Authority maintained schools, which incorporated new government auditing financial assurance regime (School Financial Value Standard). Delegation and coordination a critical element of role with up to 13 reports (matrix management of staff).Day to day management of 4 internal audit staff (attendance, performance, training, pastoral support etc).Significant contribution to development of electronic working papers system (MK Insight) and the use of audit interrogation software (IDEA). Incepted business case for continuous auditing.
