In 2008, after 16 years of loyalty, I was let go from an engineering firm that was sold to a large conglomerate. Feeling betrayed, I decided to leave corporate America behind. The markets were crashing, and the economy was uncertain, but I craved something different. I walked away from the world of office politics, driven by an oversized ego and the belief that I could build something better. My first venture, WW Ironworks, was meant to be the start of that dream. Instead, it became a harsh lesson in humility.I invested everything, certain that with my background and ambition, failure wasn’t an option. But reality hit hard. I underestimated the challenges, market shifts, and my own lack of experience outside the corporate bubble. The business failed miserably. I lost everything: my investments, both homes, cars, and even personal valuables just to stay afloat.I had to confront some hard truths. Left with a mountain of debt and a bruised ego, I knew I needed a fresh, focused start. I moved my family into a small rental, giving us space to regroup and plan my next step. That’s when BAM Customs was born.Starting in a makeshift garage workshop, I rebuilt without shortcuts or overconfidence, pouring everything into honing my skills and prioritizing quality. Slowly, work picked up, and BAM Customs became my lifeline—a business built on grit and hard lessons learned. It wasn’t easy, but it gave me a second chance to prove I could make it.Looking back, losing it all was the best thing that could have happened. WW Ironworks was my first hard lesson, stripping away my arrogance and forcing me to start over with raw determination. It became the catalyst for everything that followed: BAM Customs, ULTerra Camo, and ULTerra Basecamp.BAM Customs let me channel my passion for creating badass, custom firearms, focused on quality craftsmanship. ULTerra Camo came from my deep connection to the wild, designed for ultimate in camouflage. Then came ULTerra Basecamp, a 69-acre Tennessee retreat for those who value adventure and seclusion as much as I do.The failures taught me to check my ego at the door and embrace the grind. It wasn’t easy and there were years of setbacks, but through sheer perseverance, I found the freedom I was searching for. Now, I live life on my own terms, creating and building in ways I never imagined in those corporate boardrooms.
