• Minimize/eliminate instrument downtime and eliminate costly service contracts by providing fast on-site services in extremely cost effective way. Responsible for qualification and availability for all Department research and teaching instruments. Method development for teaching labs.• Instruct theory and principles of operation in freshman through senior laboratories. Collaborate with faculty and interdepartmental research efforts. Mentor student researchers. • Prepared and lead Department Safety Awareness Training and provided critical input to policy and procedure.• Principle responsibilities include Varian and Waters HPLCs and CE, Fast Protein LC, Hewlett Packard GCs and Varian GC/trapMS, Bruker 400 MHz NMR, Mattson and Digilab FTIRs, SPEX fluorimeters and CCD/Raman spectrograph, Circular Dichroism, P-E ICAP emission, powder R-Ray Diffraction, Polarography/Coulometry, a variety of UV-Vis-NIR instruments.

• Provided critical support to manufacturing, customer service engineers, and environmental engineering through timely, accurate, and thoroughly documented analysis programs. Routinely saved up to $2M by minimizing downtime and off-grade events, providing account saving services to sales and tech service managers. • Employed knowledge of compliance/regulatory practices to establish GMP-like quality systems for sample receiving/tracking, drafting new laboratory SOPs, reviewing existing SOPs, and validation of test results. Employed SPC control charting principles as appropriate. • Provided in depth counsel to senior management and drafted customer correspondence to address FDA, EPA, State and Federal wastewater permit, and California Prop 65 issues. • Scoped, constructed, and operated pilot wastewater treatment facility to improve final effluent quality in a fiscally responsible manner. As lead wastewater chemist received praise from Virginia Department of Environmental Quality for instituting documentation systems and blind QA programs beyond those required.• Championed use of vibrational spectroscopy to solve process upsets, improve product quality, address customer complaints, and for competitive formulation analysis.• Responsible for On-Line and At-Line test method validation and test result integrity. • Expanded number and type of chemical tests to add value to wastewater, raw materials, and process/quality control testing programs without exceeding $850M budget.• Accountable for performance of 4 Chemists and 7 Technical Associates. Successfully used active coaching and mentoring to boost performance of group members.

• Developed novel fiber optic FT-Raman spectroscopic instrumentation for on-line composition analysis for process control of chemical distillation columns. Developed and employed chemometric methods to determine chemical composition. System successfully validated at large scale manufacturing facility.
